EFFECTIVE USE OF ONLINE RESEARCH TOOLS |
Methods by which expected Student Learning Outcomes are addressed in the curriculum:
- Leader- Students have opportunities to make decisions and lead teams or groups in class projects.
- Collaborator- Students learn what ‘roles’ are and how to work within a team framework by contributing toward a specific goal, a product different yet equally important to the overall project or assignment.
- Communicator- Students develop communication skills as well as tools to enhance that communication. Students create, rehearse and present to an audience their digital creations.
- Thinker- Students are given both time and opportunity within each project to brain-storm and problem solve specific challenges via the use of online tools, as well as in conjunction with classroom instruction.
Major Projects & their driving questions :
- Island Project / Can you work as a team to achieve a goal?
- Project Citizen / What is our Government, what does it do & how does it work?
- Lewis & Clark Project / How can different cultures peacefully resolve conflict?
- Cesar Chavez Project / What are Human Rights & Labor Rights?
- Survivor Project / Is it possible to survive and even live well off the grid?
Course Policies and Procedures
***IMPORTANT: Read the MITA Responsible Use Policy. (See p.33)
The 7 th Grade Technology classroom utilizes several very high-tech computer programs, along with digital media equipment. Specific handling & behavioral procedures for proper use must be followed:
- All hardware, software, equipment & support items are expensive and must be handled in a professional, mature manner. Students will be held responsible for the deliberate destruction of classroom equipment.
- At the end of each class, all equipment used should be properly cleaned and returned.
- Students are responsible for scheduling of equipment use
- All work is submitted via school email directly to teacher email, or to a network location based upon assignment specifics
- Computer use is for classroom work only
- Students are not allowed to play online games unless directly specified by teacher
- Students are not allowed to visit inappropriate or unapproved websites.
Homework
- Homework is not normally given, as it is impossible to determine exactly what resources each home has to work with. All work given is with the purpose of being done in class or on campus. In the occasion that a student needs access to class assignments from another location due to illness or if away, they may obtain that info via phone, email or classroom website.
Make Up Work
- Make up work is given in special circumstances. Approved on a case-by-case basis. Usually not approved unless student is out due to illness.
Accessing Online Resources
- Students may access all of my classroom assignment resources directly from my Tech Class Website.
Cheating, Plagiarism and Consequences
- Any student caught cheating or stealing work (plagiarism) will receive a zero for that assignment as well as a referral to student services for disciplinary action. No make-ups given.
Teacher responsibilities vs. Student responsibilities
- It is my responsibility to:
- Present the topic and assignments in a clear, concise fashion
- Clearly communicate any expectations, due dates or guidelines.
- Attempt to find a way to reach each student to help them achieve.
- Arrive to class each day with a good attitude, open to teaching
- It is the students’ responsibility to:
- Understand it is my job to instruct them on the topic at hand
- Honestly put forth their best work in class, each and every day
- Complete assignments and projects exactly as I have specified
- Arrive to class each day with a good attitude, open to learning
School wide policies & procedures
